Hillman Curtis Artist Series

For those of you who didn't come to FITC here's a video of one of the better speakers there, Stefan Sagmeister. His talk was about Design and Happiness.

The rest of the Hillman Curtis Artist Series is quite good too.

Wiretap

A semi-complete archive of sometime This American Life contributor Jonathan Goldstein's CBC radio show Wiretap. A very strange show that doesn't hesitate to mix fiction with non-fiction without explination.

wallets to toronto!

well, the wallets aren't really going to toronto...

but, I got word today that Rena at Rare Device in Brooklyn is interested in some of my wallets! hurrah!

and then, from the Rare Device blog, I found this fascinating lamp, and then realized that this arts collective is in toronto with a show opening the night that we arrive (and it looks neat-o!)...

Chris, I am very excited to check out Queen's Street West! Sure you don't want to come with? It will be lots of fun! We are staying at a cute little B&B in Greektown.

Jack White Coke Ad

I'm not sure how I feel about this... I like Jack White, I think the commercial is good and I like Coke, but for some reason this feels wrong.

TORONTO

So, 1. who's coming?... and 2. I bought a tourbook, but who has recommendations for great places to go? I hear Kensington Market and Queens Park West...

John and I will be passing out some to-be-determined 47th promotional items! We will take Cananda by storm! Or, atleast we will pronounce Toronto correctly (which is: "Torrano" vs. "To-ron-to") as I was taught this morning...

Design Melt Down

Ann hooked me up with this link but I though I'd pass it on since it's been so helpful.

This site groups sites by styles such as: 3D, Collage, Wood, Retro and so on. Next time you're looking for something in a particular style this is a great place to get references before scouring the web.

Girl Clothes!

I offically enter the precinct doors!

I confess to being a bit harried (not hairy!) lately, as we are going into full-swing on the store project and I am having trouble on cutting-back hours at the office... I have made a sitelette (i.e. mini site of the girly form) for potential investors, here with a very simple navigation and linear sections so that anyone non-interweb savvy can peek through our information... Just in case you all know anyone with some money that they want to invest in a contemporary women's clothing store, send them to me!

Working on the store concept has introduced me to some interesting clothing designers: black label and myre (a highschool classmate who is working out a loft in southie)... As well as some interesting design trends like portia wells experiments and the nymphette drawings that seem to be everywhere (such as these by marimekko and deanne cheuk).

Don't you all miss my longwinded notes?

Saab Aero X

I came across this site when I was doing some research for the X-COM interface, the game I went to work on in Australia. The game is supposed to have a futuristic military style HUD. Exciting, I know.

The photography (or is it video in this case?) is really nice and I love the slider on the bottom. How did they do that? Timeline animation?

The car is also pretty amazing.

One family, 30 years

400 Highland

Here’s the first project Ann and I have worked on as a company. The site’s not live yet (we’re waiting to receive the final menus).

This is our first pass at it to define the look of the site. We’re going to be doing another round soon that expands on this.

Comments and suggestions are always welcome.

Thank You for Smoking

I don't know much about the movie other than it's received some really good reviews. Here's the title sequence for the movie by Shadowplay Studios. It's a lot like what I'm trying to do for a certain game I'm working on now but unfortunately our CEO has plans for less sexy results.

Newsvine

It's an interesting way to get the news.
www.newsvine.com

Let's hear it for the deaf man!

Ann and I have decided on a company name...The 47th! The main inspiration for the name came from it being a randomly reoccurring number in Ann's life but there were a few other factors including the fact that we just liked the sound of it.

The47th.com will be where we post or work and here at the Precinct will be where we have fun. We can all post cool links, news, tips tricks, party invitations and whatever else we want to share with each other.

If anyone needs help with how to post just let me know. One tip I’ll give everyone is that by going to the “Email” tab under “Settings” you can setup an email address by which you can post to this blog. Meaning… you send an email to an address you make up and that email will get posted here. Make sure to check off the "publish" box next to your email or else the posts will just get saved as drafts. You won't see the option at first becuase I can't make anyone an Admin until they accept the invitation.
